Trio of former Inverness Leaders Joins AgaMatrix



A Cambridge company looking ahead to manufacturing and marketing its products for the diabetes industry recently finalized a "management implant" that adds three stellar life sciences executives to its roster.

Officials of AgaMatrix, Inc. recently announced that three former executives of Inverness Medical Technology have joined the company. The trio was part of the team that sold Inverness to Johnson & Johnson Co. for $1.3 billion in 2001.

It's not the inmates taking over the asylum, but similar: mathematicians taking over medicine. AgaMatrix Inc., a nine-person startup based in Cambridge, Mass., has developed a new technology to measure blood sugar levels in diabetics. Rather than measure glucose through a series of biochemical tests, AgaMatrix has put a digital signal processor in its biosensor to filter out extraneous blood chemicals using mathematical algorithms.

AgaMatrix Inc., a Cambridge software company that focuses on performance improvements in biosensors, has closed on $500,000 in seed financing.

The IncTank, a seed-stage investor and incubator in Cambridge, provided the financing along with a number of angel investors. IncTank also houses AgaMatrix in its incubator space.
